A video compressor that never uploads your video
Most online video compressors upload your file, shrink it on their server and send it back. This one makes your video smaller right on your device, using your computer’s own video encoder. That means no upload wait, no server size cap, and nobody else ever holds a copy. It’s free, with no watermark and no account.
How to reduce video size
- Pick where you’re sending it, or choose a custom size in MB.
- Drop your video in. You’ll see how big it is against the limit and what quality to expect.
- Press Compress and save the smaller file. It’s an MP4 that plays everywhere.
Free video tools that keep your files private
FitVideo does the everyday video jobs that usually send you to a cloud converter: shrinking a clip so it uploads, fixing a file that won’t play, and making a quick slideshow. The difference is where the work happens. Your video never leaves your device, so there is no upload wait, no file-size cap set by a server, and nobody else ever holds a copy.

Questions
How do I make a video smaller?
Drop it into the compressor on this page, choose a size, and press Compress. The video is re-encoded at the bitrate that fits, and scaled down only if that will look better.
Can I compress MP4, MOV and other formats?
Yes. You can compress MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and M4V files. The result is always an MP4 that plays everywhere.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool runs inside your browser and uses your device’s own video encoder. Your file is read from your device, processed there and saved back. You can confirm this in your browser’s network panel: nothing is sent while a video is processed.
Is it free?
Yes. The tools are free to use and supported by ads. There is no sign-up and no watermark.
Can I compress a video without losing quality?
Any compression removes some detail; that’s how files get smaller. What matters is whether you can see it. We use the full size you allow, keep the frame rate, and step down resolution only when it will look sharper than a blocky full-size picture. For short clips the difference is usually invisible on a phone.
Is there a watermark?
No. The video you save is exactly what the encoder produced: no watermark, no logo, no sign-up.
Which browsers does it work in?
It works best in Chrome and Edge on a computer. It needs a browser feature called WebCodecs. If your browser doesn’t have it, the page tells you before you start.
Is there a maximum file size?
There’s no fixed limit, but very large files (over 1–2 GB) can run out of memory on phones and older computers. A computer with 8 GB of memory or more handles most videos.
Why is it slower on some devices?
The speed depends on your device’s video hardware. Newer computers compress a one-minute 1080p clip in well under a minute; older ones take longer.
