How to compress a video to 50 MB
- The size is already set to 50 MB. You can change it under “Custom size”.
- Drop your video in and check the expected resolution and quality.
- Press Compress, then save the MP4. It’s guaranteed to be under 50 MB.
Where a 50 MB limit comes up
Fifty megabytes is the Discord Nitro Basic limit and a common cap on course platforms, client portals and larger upload forms. It’s enough for several minutes of good-quality video.
Common uses: Discord Nitro Basic, learning platforms, client portals, larger forms.
What quality fits in 50 MB?
The size limit is shared across the whole video, so the longer it is, the less data each second gets. This is what to expect:
| Video length | Output | Video bitrate | Quality |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 seconds | 1080p | 25.2 Mbps | Good |
| 30 seconds | 1080p | 12.5 Mbps | Good |
| 1 minute | 1080p | 6.2 Mbps | Good |
| 2 minutes | 1080p | 3.0 Mbps | Good |
| 5 minutes | 720p | 1.1 Mbps | OK |
| 10 minutes | 480p | 0.5 Mbps | Low |
For a 1080p source with sound at 50 MB. Removing the sound gives the picture about 128 kbps more.
At 50 MB a five-minute screen recording or a two-minute phone video stays sharp at 720p or better.
How we hit the size exactly
We work out the bitrate from your video’s length so the file lands just under 50 MB, with a little room for the MP4 container. If the encoder overshoots, it automatically tries again slightly smaller, so you never get a file that’s too big.
Questions
Will my video definitely be under 50 MB?
Yes. The size is checked after encoding, and if it’s over, the video is re-encoded slightly smaller automatically.
Why is my video “too long for this size”?
Below a certain bitrate the picture becomes unwatchable. Long videos can’t fit 50 MB at a usable quality, so trim the video or choose a bigger size.
Can I compress a video without losing quality?
Any compression removes some detail; that’s how files get smaller. What matters is whether you can see it. We use the full size you allow, keep the frame rate, and step down resolution only when it will look sharper than a blocky full-size picture. For short clips the difference is usually invisible on a phone.
Is there a watermark?
No. The video you save is exactly what the encoder produced: no watermark, no logo, no sign-up.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool runs inside your browser and uses your device’s own video encoder. Your file is read from your device, processed there and saved back. You can confirm this in your browser’s network panel: nothing is sent while a video is processed.
