How to make your Facebook reel

  1. Drop in your video. Landscape, square and vertical all work.
  2. Choose how to fill the frame: a blurred background, a colour, or crop to fill (what’s the difference?).
  3. Trim it if you like, press Make video, and save a 1080 × 1920 MP4 with the sound kept.

Which fill works best for Facebook?

If your clip has subtitles or on-screen text, use the blurred background or a colour so none of it is cropped away; Facebook puts your caption and buttons over the bottom of the reel. Crop to fill is best for clips without text.

Every Facebook video is now a reel

Since September 2025, every video you post on Facebook is shared as a reel, whatever its length or shape (Facebook Help). Facebook accepts anything from 16:9 to 9:16, but a 9:16 video fills the screen in the Reels feed, where most people watch.

Keep text clear of the buttons

Like Instagram, Facebook overlays your name, caption and buttons on a reel. Meta’s Reels guidance is to keep about 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% at each side free of text (Meta Ads Guide). The preview shows that area.

Common problems on Facebook

  • My reel was muted weeks after posting. Music rights can change after you post, and then Facebook mutes the reel in some countries and stops recommending it (Facebook Help). Replace the music, or use tracks from the Meta Sound Collection.
  • The upload is slow or blurry. Facebook recommends MP4 at 1080p or below with AAC sound (Meta Business Help). That’s exactly what this tool saves.
  • The same video looks different on Instagram. Both apps use 9:16 at 1080 × 1920 and the same safe zone, so one file works for both. Tick Instagram under “Also make it for”.
