Drop in your video. Landscape, square and vertical all work.
Choose how to fill the frame: a blurred background, a colour, or crop to fill (what’s the difference?).
Trim it if you like, press Make video, and save a 1080 × 1920 MP4 with the sound kept.
Which fill works best for Snapchat?
For Spotlight, choose Crop to fill: Snap leaves out letterboxed video there. For your Story, the blurred background keeps the whole picture, which Snapchat would otherwise crop itself.
Why make it 9:16 first?
Snapchat shows everything at 9:16, and crops videos of other shapes to fit (Snapchat Support). If your clip is landscape, that crop can cut off the sides. Making it 9:16 here first, with a blurred background, keeps the whole picture.
How long can a Snapchat video be?
Videos uploaded to My Story from the web must be 5 to 60 seconds long, at 540 × 960 or more. To post to Spotlight, a video needs to be at least 5 seconds. The tool warns you if what you keep is shorter than 5 seconds or longer than 60.
Common problems on Snapchat
My Snap isn’t showing on Spotlight. Spotlight leaves out horizontal, letterboxed, blurry or low-resolution video, and still images (Snap’s recommendation guidelines; Snapchat for Creators). For Spotlight, choose Crop to fill rather than a background, and keep the sound on.
It was turned down for another app’s logo. Snap doesn’t recommend videos showing another app’s name or watermark, or content you didn’t create or change. Use your original clip, not a download from another app.
It was cropped strangely. Snapchat crops other shapes to 9:16 itself. Make it 9:16 here first so you choose what stays in.
