How to make your Reddit video
Drop in your video. Landscape, square and vertical all work.
Choose how to fill the frame: a blurred background, a colour, or crop to fill (what’s the difference?).
Trim it if you like, press Make video, and save an MP4 with the sound kept.
Which shape and fill for Reddit?
Choose the shape under Shape: 16:9 for clips people mostly watch on a computer, 1:1 or 4:5 for phone-heavy communities. A colour suits screen recordings and memes; the blurred background suits camera footage.
Videos in posts and comments
For videos in comments, Reddit’s rules are clear: 2 seconds to 3 minutes, under 1 GB, with under 300 MB recommended, and only in communities that allow them (Reddit Help). Video posts can be up to 15 minutes, or 30 with Reddit Premium (Reddit Help). Each community can also set its own rules.
Which shape works on Reddit?
Reddit takes landscape, square and vertical video. Landscape suits clips people watch on a computer; square and vertical take up more of a phone screen. Choose under Shape, and the tool fills the frame with a blurred copy of the video, a colour, or a crop.
GIFs on Reddit
A big GIF is often far smaller as an MP4. Use GIF to MP4 first if your GIF is too big to post.
Common problems on Reddit
My video post is too long. Posts can be up to 15 minutes (30 with Premium). Trim it here with From and To before you upload.
My comment video was rejected. Comment videos must be 2 seconds to 3 minutes and under 1 GB, with under 300 MB recommended, and the community has to allow them.
There’s no option to add video. Each community chooses whether to allow video, and videos in comments only work in safe-for-work communities.
