How to make a video the right size

  1. Drop in your video. Landscape, square and vertical all work.
  2. Choose how to fill the tall frame: a blurred copy of your video behind it, a plain colour, or crop it to fill the screen and drag to choose what stays in.
  3. Trim it if you like, press Make video, and save a 1080 × 1920 MP4 for your post, with the sound kept.

Blurred background, colour or crop?

  • Blurred background keeps the whole picture and fills the gaps with a soft, blurred copy of the same video, so there are no black bars. Best for landscape clips where everything matters.
  • A colour does the same with a plain colour, which suits text, slides and brand posts.
  • Crop to fill uses the whole screen. You lose the sides of a landscape video, so drag the crop position to keep the subject in the middle.

Questions

What size should a video be for social media?

1080 × 1920 (9:16) for Reels, TikTok, Shorts and Stories; 1080 × 1350 (4:5) or 1080 × 1080 (1:1) for feed posts; 1920 × 1080 (16:9) for YouTube.

Can I make versions for several apps at once?

Yes. Tick the other apps under “Also make it for” and press Make. Apps that need the same video share one file, so Instagram, Facebook and TikTok get one 9:16 video, while YouTube gets a 16:9 one.

Does it keep the sound?

Yes. The original sound is kept.

Is it free? Is there a watermark?

Free, with no watermark and no sign-up.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is made in your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Which browsers does it work in?

Chrome and Edge on computers and Android work best. Recent Safari on iPhone and Mac works too.
